Lesson 2: Homophones & Homographs
Welcome back to class! Today we are looking at tricky English words that sound or look the same. Sometimes words sound exactly the same but mean different things (we call these Homophones ). Other times, words are spelled exactly the same but are pronounced differently and have different meanings (we call these Homographs ). Let's master them so you never order the wrong thing at a restaurant or misread a sign! Vocabulary List: Sea (Ocean) - The salt water that covers most of the earth. See (Look) - To perceive with the eyes. Meat (Food) - The flesh of an animal used for food. Meet (Greeting) - To come together with someone. Close (Near) - Near in space or time. Close (Shut) - To shut something. Common Mistake: Mixing up definitions Homophones sound the same but are spelled differently (e.g., Sea / See).
