Classic Stories

Aesop's Fables

The story of The Tortoise and the Hare.

Lesson Goal: Learn how to listen to a story, understand the characters' actions, and identify the moral lesson.

Listening to Stories

Fables are short, classic stories that usually feature animals acting like humans. The most important part of a fable is its moral—the lesson it tries to teach us about life.

When you listen to a story in English, don't worry if you don't understand every single word. Instead, focus on the actions of the characters. Ask yourself: Who is doing what? Why did they win or lose?

Go to the next tab to learn the key story vocabulary, then listen to the fable in the Practice tab!
