Lesson 1: Expanding Collocations (Strong/Weak/Natural)
Welcome to B2 Vocabulary! When I listen to my upper-intermediate students, they often use perfect grammar but still sound a little unnatural. Why? The answer is Collocations . These are words that naturally belong together in English. You cannot just use any synonym. Today, I will show you how to choose the exact right words so you sound like a highly fluent speaker. Vocabulary List: Heavy rain (Noun Collocation) - A large amount of rain falling. Make a decision (Verb Collocation) - To choose what to do after thinking carefully. Bitterly cold (Adverb Collocation) - Extremely and unpleasantly cold. Fully aware (Adverb Collocation) - Completely knowing or understanding a situation. Common Mistake: Direct Translation Many languages might translate to "strong rain". In English, wind is strong, but rain is heavy. We always say "Heavy rain".
