The Smartphone Revolution
In the last decade, Cambodia has experienced a rapid digital transformation. Ten years ago, very few people had stable internet access. Today, mobile phone connections outnumber the total population, and inexpensive smartphones are the primary way most Cambodians go online.
This shift has changed daily life significantly. People use apps for almost everything, bridging gaps in traditional infrastructure. Communication has largely moved to platforms like Telegram and Messenger. Ride-hailing apps have made navigating streets easier, and mobile banking apps allow people to send money instantly without visiting a bank. This digital adoption has made essential services incredibly convenient.
However, a digital divide still exists. While urban areas enjoy fast 4G internet, connection speeds in remote rural provinces can remain slow. Bridging this gap is crucial to ensure everyone benefits from the growing digital economy.
