Subject Pronouns

សព្វនាមដើរតួជាប្រធាន

A Pronoun is a word that replaces a Noun. The Subject is the person or thing doing the action. Example: John eats becomes He eats.

សព្វនាមគឺជាពាក្យដែលជំនួសឱ្យនាម។ ប្រធាន គឺជាមនុស្ស ឬវត្ថុដែលធ្វើសកម្មភាព។

Singular (Me & You) 👤

ឯកវចនៈ (ខ្លួនខ្ញុំ និង អ្នក)

I Talking about yourself. Example: I am happy. ខ្ញុំ

You Talking to one person. Example: You are my friend. អ្នក (សម្រាប់មនុស្សម្នាក់)

Singular (Other People & Things) 👉

ឯកវចនៈ (មនុស្ស និងវត្ថុផ្សេងទៀត)

He Talking about a boy or man. Example: He is sleeping. គាត់ (មនុស្សប្រុសម្នាក់)

She Talking about a girl or woman. Example: She is reading. នាង (មនុស្សស្រីម្នាក់)

It Talking about an animal or a thing. Example: It is a cat. វា (សត្វ ឬ វត្ថុមួយ)

Plural (More than one) 👥

ពហុវចនៈ (ច្រើនជាងមួយ)

We You and other people together. Example: We are going to school. ពួកយើង

You Talking to a group of people. Example: You are all my students. ពួកអ្នក (មនុស្សច្រើននាក់)

They Talking about other people, animals, or things. Example: They are playing outside. ពួកគេ / ពួកវា

Do not use Object Pronouns (me, him, her) as the Subject doing the action!

(កុំប្រើសព្វនាមកម្មបទ ដូចជា me, him, ឬ her សម្រាប់ធ្វើជាប្រធាននៃប្រយោគដែលធ្វើសកម្មភាពឱ្យសោះ!)

"Me and David go to school."
ខុស! (Wrong!)

Great question, Vireak! Usually, we use "It" for animals. However, if it is a pet and you know if it is a boy or a girl, you can use "He" or "She". 🐶

It is used for both! You can say "You are my friend" (1 person) and "You are my students" (many people). The spelling and speaking are exactly the same! 👥

Can we use "They" for things like cars or books?

Yes! "They" is used for people, animals, AND things, as long as there is more than one. For example: "The cars are fast. They are fast." 🚗
