We use modals to be polite when we ask for something or ask someone to do something.

May I leave early?

(Polite - អ្នកស្គាល់គ្នា/កន្លែងសាធារណៈ) តើអ្នកសុំហុចអំបិលមកឱ្យខ្ញុំបន្តិចបានទេ?

The "Mind" Trap!

Answering "Would you mind?"

(ប្រយ័ត្ន! ពាក្យថា mind មានន័យថា "ប្រកាន់" ឬ "ទើសទាល់" ។ បើអ្នកយល់ព្រមជួយគេ អ្នកត្រូវឆ្លើយថា NO!)

Q: Would you mind closing the door?
A: "No, not at all." ✅ (I will close it)
A: "Yes, I mind." ❌ (Rude: I won't do it)

No, we don't usually say "May you". "May I" is for asking permission for yourself. If you want someone else to do something (a request), use "Could you" or "Can you"! 🌟

Exactly! "Would you mind?" means "Does it bother you?". So saying "No, I don't mind" means "I am happy to do it"! It feels like a trick, but you'll get used to it! 🤯
