At the intermediate level, fluency relies on understanding how paragraphs are engineered. We must look beyond individual vocabulary words and analyze the framework of the text. Core Reading Pillars Covered: Topic Sentences: The anchor of the paragraph, usually found in the first line, summarizing the main idea. Discourse Markers: The 'traffic signals' of reading (e.g., However, Furthermore, Consequently) that show how ideas connect. Organization Patterns: Recognizing if a text is Chronological (time-based), Cause and Effect, or Compare and Contrast. Linguistic Trap: The Translation Bottleneck Many intermediate readers get stuck trying to translate every single word.
