Welcome to your primary writing track. Writing in English requires establishing clear structural boundaries. If you do not use proper capitalization and punctuation, your sentences will crash into each other, making them impossible for a reader to navigate.
Today, we will master the fundamental mechanics: Capital letters, terminal punctuation, and applying these rules to fill out official document forms.
1. Capitalization Rules
In English, we cannot use lowercase letters everywhere. We use an Uppercase (Capital) letter as a structural marker in three specific situations.
2. Terminal Punctuation
A sentence must be physically terminated to tell the reader to stop. Without these marks, your writing becomes a confusing, endless stream.
Used to end a standard statement or fact.
Used specifically to end a direct question.
A frequent constraint for beginners is placing a physical space before the punctuation mark. A full stop or question mark must attach directly to the final letter of the preceding word.
3. Official Form Filling
Applying capitalization mechanics is critical when filling out official forms (like hotel registrations or visa documents). Forms utilize standard noun labels requesting your exact data.
