Lesson 1: Connotation, Denotation & Euphemisms
Connotation, Denotation & Euphemisms Welcome to B2 Upper-Intermediate Vocabulary! I am Teacher Sopheak. Today we are looking at the hidden feelings inside English words. Vocabulary List: Denotation (Noun) - អត្ថន័យត្រង់ (The literal dictionary meaning) Connotation (Noun) - អត្ថន័យបង្កប់ (The feeling a word gives you) Euphemism (Noun) - ពាក្យបញ្ចៀស / ពាក្យពិរោះស្តាប់ (A polite word used instead of a harsh one) Affordable (Adjective) - តម្លៃសមរម្យ (Inexpensive, but with a positive connotation) Common Mistake: Cheap vs. Affordable Never tell a guest your tour is "cheap." It sounds like low quality! Use "affordable" or "budget-friendly" instead. Please enable JavaScript to view the interactive flashcards, take the quiz, and download the audio resources.
