Welcome to B2 Upper Intermediate! I am Teacher Sopheak. As your vocabulary grows, memorizing individual words is no longer enough.
I always tell my students in Battambang that learning word roots and affixes is like getting a master key to the English language. Today, we look at how adding prefixes and suffixes—or changing a noun into a verb (conversion)—can instantly multiply your vocabulary.
Morphology in Action
Example: The local government plans to revitalize the old colonial buildings in Battambang to attract more tourists.
Example: The intricate carvings on the pink sandstone at Banteay Srei are absolutely unbelievable.
Example: To prevent overtourism, authorities now limit the number of daily visitors allowed at the peak of the mountain.
Example: Cambodia was very proud to host the Southeast Asian Games successfully.
record_voice_over In Action: Professional Discussion
A common trap for language learners is trying to convert every noun into a verb.
While you can host an event (Noun → Verb) or water the plants (Noun → Verb), you cannot "food" a guest (you must use the verb feed). Always verify if a conversion is natural and accepted in English before using it in professional contexts!
