Welcome to the B2 Upper Intermediate level! I am Teacher Sopheak. When I read essays from my university students here in Phnom Penh, I often see them using casual, everyday verbs. While words like "get" and "buy" are not wrong, they are too informal for academic writing or corporate emails.

To sound truly professional and elevate your writing, we need to upgrade your vocabulary by using Formal Alternatives.

Formal Verb

Acquire /əˈkwaɪər/ ទទួលបាន (ជំនួសពាក្យ get)

ទទួលបានចំណេះដឹង ជំនាញ ឬទ្រព្យសម្បត្តិ។ នេះគឺជាទម្រង់ផ្លូវការនៃពាក្យ "get"។

Casual: She wants to get more experience in management.

Formal: She intends to acquire further experience in management.

Purchase /ˈpɜːrtʃəs/ ទិញ / ជាវ (ជំនួសពាក្យ buy)

ទិញរបស់អ្វីមួយ ជាពិសេសនៅក្នុងបរិបទអាជីវកម្ម។ នេះគឺជាទម្រង់ផ្លូវការនៃពាក្យ "buy"។

Casual: The hotel plans to buy new equipment next year.

Formal: The hotel intends to purchase new equipment next year.

Assist /əˈsɪst/ ជួយ / សម្រួល (ជំនួសពាក្យ help)

ជួយនរណាម្នាក់ ជាពិសេសក្នុងបរិបទការងារ ឬការបម្រើសេវាកម្ម។ នេះគឺជាទម្រង់ផ្លូវការនៃពាក្យ "help"។

Casual: The staff will help you with your bags.

Formal: Our staff will gladly assist you with your luggage.

Formal Verb

Commence /kəˈmens/ ចាប់ផ្តើម (ជំនួសពាក្យ start)

ចាប់ផ្តើម ប្រើប្រាស់ជាទូទៅសម្រាប់កម្មវិធីផ្លូវការ ការប្រជុំ ឬគម្រោង។ នេះគឺជាទម្រង់ផ្លូវការនៃពាក្យ "start" ឬ "begin"។

Casual: The conference will start at 9:00 AM.

Formal: The conference will commence at 09:00 sharp.

Avoid using conversational Phrasal Verbs in formal writing.
