Present Simple

បច្ចុប្បន្នកាលធម្មតា (កិរិយាសព្ទសកម្មភាព)

We use the Present Simple to talk about Facts and Habits (things we do every day).

យើងប្រើប្រាស់វាដើម្បីនិយាយពី ការពិត និង ទម្លាប់ដែលយើងធ្វើជារៀងរាល់ថ្ងៃ។

The "S" Rule 🅰️

ច្បាប់នៃការថែម S សម្រាប់ He, She, It

I work every day. Subject: I ខ្ញុំធ្វើការរាល់ថ្ងៃ។

She works every day. Subject: She (Add S) នាងធ្វើការរាល់ថ្ងៃ។

They play soccer. Subject: They ពួកគេលេងបាល់ទាត់។

He plays soccer. Subject: He (Add S) គាត់លេងបាល់ទាត់។

Spelling Rules (ES / IES) 🔠

ការប្តូរអក្ខរាវិរុទ្ធពេលថែម S

I go → He goes Rule: Ends in -o (Add -es) ខ្ញុំទៅ → គាត់ទៅ

I watch → She watches Rule: Ends in -ch (Add -es) ខ្ញុំមើល → នាងមើល

I wash → He washes Rule: Ends in -sh (Add -es) ខ្ញុំលាង → គាត់លាង

I study → She studies Rule: Consonant + y (Change to -ies) ខ្ញុំរៀន → នាងរៀន

I don't work. Negative (I, You, We, They) ខ្ញុំមិនធ្វើការទេ។

She doesn't work. Negative (He, She, It) នាងមិនធ្វើការទេ។

Does he play? Question (He, She, It) តើគាត់លេងទេ?

The Double S Trap!

Never add an 's' to the main verb if you already use "Doesn't" or "Does"!

(កុំថែមអក្សរ 's' នៅកិរិយាសព្ទដើម ប្រសិនបើអ្នកប្រើពាក្យ "Doesn't" ឬ "Does" រួចហើយ!)

"She doesn't works."
ខុស! (Wrong!) ❌

"She doesn't work."

Hi Vireak! That is a special spelling rule. When a verb ends in the letter 'o' (like go, do), we must add '-es' instead of just '-s'. So 'go' becomes 'goes' and 'do' becomes 'does'! 📘

No, you cannot. Because the subject is "He" (3rd person singular), you must use the helper verb "does". So it becomes "He does not play" or "He doesn't play". 💡

What about the verb "have"? Does it become "haves"?

That is a great question! "Have" is irregular. It does not become "haves". Instead, it changes completely to "has". For example: I have a car. He has a car. 🚗
