Lesson 06: Happening Now

What is Present Continuous?

We use this tense for actions happening right now or temporary situations.

បច្ចុប្បន្នកាលកំពុងបន្ត = សកម្មភាពដែលកំពុងកើតឡើង។

Subject + BE + VERB-ING

Silent 'E' Drop E

If a verb ends in -e, remove it before adding -ing.

Make	→	Making
Write	→	Writing
Dance	→	Dancing

C-V-C Rule Double x2

If a 1-syllable word ends in Consonant-Vowel-Consonant, double the last letter.

Run	→	Running
Sit	→	Sitting
Stop	→	Stopping

These words often signal the Present Continuous.

At the moment	ខណៈនេះ
Look! / Listen!	មើលន៎! / ស្តាប់ន៎!

⚠️ WARNING: Stative Verbs

We do not usually use these verbs in the continuous form, even if it is happening now. They describe states, not actions.

Loving Knowing Wnting Hating Believing

✓ Correct: "I know him." (Not "I am knowing him")
