Notices & Warnings
Scanning formal documents to avoid trouble.
Reading to Avoid Trouble
In the real world, not all reading is for fun. Sometimes you receive a notice from your landlord, a ticket from the police, or see a warning sign on a fence.
These documents are usually written in very formal, legal English. However, you don't need to understand every single complex word. By using scanning, you can quickly find the most important details: Why did you get this paper, How much do you owe (if there is a penalty), and When is the deadline to fix it.
Go to the next tab to learn the legal vocabulary, then practice scanning the Eviction Notice, Parking Ticket, and Warning Sign in the Practice tab!
