The Global Economy
Lesson Goal: Learn how to listen for cause-and-effect relationships when discussing complex topics like the economy.
Listening for Cause and Effect
When listening to the news or professional discussions, it is important to understand why things are happening. This is called cause and effect.
Listen carefully for linking words that explain a reason, such as: "because of", "due to", or "caused by". You should also listen for conditional words like "if", which signal that one event will cause another event to happen in the future.
