Talking to Neighbors
Lesson Goal: Learn how to listen for specific requests and understand common community rules when talking to neighbors.
Being a Good Neighbor
When you move to a new place, introducing yourself to the neighbors is a great way to practice your English!
Neighbors often talk about the building rules (like when to take out the trash or when to keep quiet). Sometimes, neighbors also ask to borrow things from each other. When listening to these conversations, pay attention to polite request phrases like "Do you mind if I..." or "Could I please..."
Go to the next card to learn the neighborhood vocabulary, then listen to the conversation between Tom and Linda in the Listen tab!
