Inference

Project Chronos

Narrative Comprehension & Inference Skills.

Lesson Goal: Learn how to read documents where information is missing, and use context clues to figure out the secrets.

Reading Between the Lines

Sometimes when you read an article or a report, you won't understand every single word. In official government or military documents, information is sometimes deliberately hidden or redacted.

When this happens, you must use inference (guessing based on evidence). Look at the words *around* the black bars to understand the context. Is it a name? A place? A number?

DECLASSIFIED
Project: CHRONOS Date: October 26, 1985 Location: Twin Pines Mall Lead Scientist: Dr. Emmett Brown

SUBJECT: Field Test of Temporal Displacement.

At 01:20 AM, the DeLorean car (Prototype-1) was positioned at the starting line. The objective was to reach a critical velocity of 88 MPH to activate the Flux Capacitor.

OBSERVATION:
Upon reaching velocity, the vehicle vanished in a flash of blue light, leaving behind two trails of fire on the asphalt. The test subject (a dog named Einstein) successfully traveled exactly one minute into the future.

HAZARD REPORT:
The experiment requires 1.21 Gigawatts of electricity. This power was generated using stolen Plutonium. Radiation levels are currently stable, but containment is required immediately.

CONCLUSION: Time travel is possible.

1. What vehicle was used as the prototype?
2. How much power does the experiment need?
3. Who was the first test subject to travel in time?
4. What dangerous material was used for fuel?
