Navigating Media Schedules
When you want to watch a football match or a movie on TV, you don't pick up the TV guide and read it like a novel. Reading every single word from the top of the page to the bottom would take too much time!
Instead, you use a reading skill called scanning. When you scan an EPG (Electronic Program Guide), your eyes jump across the grid to find specific columns and rows. You look for the channel number on the left, the time slots across the top, and the colored blocks that represent the broadcast.
For example, if you want to know when the news is on, your eyes will instantly search for the word "News" or look for a specific time, like 6:00 PM. Scanning is an essential real-world skill for navigating modern media apps, streaming platforms, and traditional television.
