Lesson 10: Transit Matrix (Bus Schedule)

✈️ Transit Lab
Scanning
Lesson Goal: Learn how to find important travel information quickly on schedules and tickets.

Navigating Transit Hubs

When you are traveling through a busy airport, bus terminal, or train station, things move incredibly fast. You do not have time to stand and read every single word on the large electronic screens. If you try to read like you are reading a book, you might miss your departure!

This is when you must use a functional reading skill called scanning. Instead of reading left-to-right, your eyes should jump directly to the specific information you need. For example, if you are flying to Tokyo, you immediately scan the destination column for the letter 'T'. Once you find your city, you scan across that specific row to find your gate.

You also need to scan for status changes. Look closely for words like boarding or delayed, which are often highlighted in bright colors like green, yellow, or red to quickly grab your attention.
