How to Use "There is" and "There are"
Rule 1: Use There is for ONE thing (Singular)
We also use "a" or "an" for one thing. Use "a" before a consonant sound (b, c, d...) and "an" before a vowel sound (a, e, i, o, u).
- There is a bed.
- There is a lamp.
- There is an armchair.
Rule 2: Use There are for TWO or MORE things (Plural)
We add -s to the end of the noun for plural.
- There are two chairs.
- There are many books.
Where Are The Things? (Prepositions)

The lamp is on the table.
The clothes are in the closet.
The shoes are under the bed.
The table is next to the bed.
Example: My Room
This is my room. It is small. There is a big bed. There is a table next to the bed. On the table, there is a lamp and a book. There are two chairs in my room. My shoes are under the bed.
