Teacher, I heard we should NEVER use phrasal verbs in IELTS Academic writing because they are informal. Is that true?

Hi Makara! That is a very common myth! back_hand While *some* phrasal verbs are definitely too informal (like 'hang out' or 'mess up'), many are perfectly acceptable and even expected in C1/IELTS writing. Words like 'bring about' (cause), 'carry out' (conduct), and 'set forth' (state) show excellent vocabulary range. You just need to know the register of the specific verb you are using! school
