Hi Panha! This is a great question. When we talk about something that is UNREAL or IMAGINARY, we use a special grammar rule called the "Subjunctive Mood". In this mood, "was" becomes "were" for all subjects (I were, he were, she were). However, in informal speech, many native speakers still say "I wish I was", but "were" is formally correct! 🎓
Can I use "hope" for the past? Like "I hope you had a good time yesterday."
Yes, Vireak! You can use "hope" for the past IF you don't know the result yet. For example, if your friend took a test yesterday and hasn't gotten the score, you can say "I hope you passed!" We focused on Present/Future today, but past hopes are definitely possible! 💡
Teacher, why do we use "were" with "I"? Isn't it "I was"? (If only I were...)
