Interrupted Action

សកម្មភាពដែលត្រូវបានរំខាន (Past Cont. & Past Simple)

We use the Past Continuous for a long action, and the Past Simple for a short action that interrupts it.

when + Past Simple (V2)

(The sudden action that happens in the middle)

I was exploring Angkor Wat when it started to rain. ខ្ញុំកំពុងតែដើរលេងនៅអង្គរវត្ត ពេលនោះស្រាប់តែភ្លៀងធ្លាក់។

She was watching TV when the phone rang. នាងកំពុងតែមើលទូរទស្សន៍ ពេលនោះទូរស័ព្ទក៏រោទ៍ឡើង។

ពាក្យភ្ជាប់ "នៅពេលដែល" និង "ខណៈពេលដែល"

When + Past Simple (Short action)

While + Past Continuous (Long action)

While I was eating, he called. ខណៈពេលខ្ញុំកំពុងញ៉ាំអី គាត់បានតេមក។

I was eating when he called. ខ្ញុំកំពុងញ៉ាំអី ពេលដែលគាត់តេមក។

Stative Verbs Trap! ⚠️

No "ing" for feelings or thoughts!

Hi Chanda! It is best to avoid it. 'While' means 'during that time', so it naturally fits with the longer Past Continuous action (While I was sleeping). Use 'when' for the short Past Simple action! ⚡
