Why do we have irregular verbs? Why not just add -ed to everything?

It's because of the history of the English language! These verbs are very old, coming from Old English. They were used so often that their old forms survived, while newer words just took the regular "-ed" ending. ⏳

Is "read" an irregular verb? It looks the same in the past tense.

Yes, it is! The spelling stays exactly the same (read), but the pronunciation changes. In the present, it sounds like "reed." In the past, it sounds like "red." 📖

Do I use "did" when asking questions with "was" or "were"? Like "Did you were there?"

No! The verb "to be" (was/were) is very special. It doesn't need "did" for questions. You just swap the order: "Were you there?" ✅ Not "Did you be there?". ⚠️
