Connecting Ideas

ពាក្យភ្ជាប់ក្នុងការនិយាយ

Use words like and, but, so, because to connect short sentences into long, natural speech!

She plays tennis and he plays football. Use: Connecting two actions. នាងលេងតេនីស ហើយគាត់លេងបាល់ទាត់។
We went to the park and we had a picnic. Use: Sequence of events. ពួកយើងបានទៅសួនច្បារ ហើយពួកយើងបានញ៉ាំអាហារជុំគ្នា។
I bought a shirt and a pair of shoes. Use: Connecting items. ខ្ញុំបានទិញអាវមួយ និងស្បែកជើងមួយគូ។

I want to go but I have no money. Use: A problem or block. ខ្ញុំចង់ទៅ ប៉ុន្តែខ្ញុំអត់មានលុយទេ។

It was raining so we stayed home. Use: The result of the weather. មេឃកំពុងភ្លៀង ដូច្នេះហើយពួកយើងនៅផ្ទះ។
She studied hard so she passed the exam. Use: The success from effort. នាងខំប្រឹងរៀន ទើបនាងប្រឡងជាប់។
I have no money so I cannot buy it. Use: The logical result. ខ្ញុំគ្មានលុយទេ ដូច្នេះហើយខ្ញុំមិនអាចទិញវាបានទេ។

I went to bed because I was tired. Use: Giving the reason first. ខ្ញុំចូលគេង ពីព្រោះខ្ញុំហត់។
We stayed home because it was raining. Use: Explaining the choice. ពួកយើងនៅផ្ទះ ដោយសារតែមេឃភ្លៀង។
She passed the exam because she studied hard. Use: Showing the cause of success. នាងប្រឡងជាប់ ពីព្រោះនាងខំប្រឹងរៀន។
I cannot buy it because I have no money. Use: Explaining a limitation. ខ្ញុំមិនអាចទិញវាបានទេ ដោយសារតែខ្ញុំគ្មានលុយ។

Do not use "because" and "so" in the same sentence!

In speaking, yes! It is very natural to start a sentence with "And" or "But" when you are talking. However, in formal writing, it is better to avoid it. chat

They are related, but opposites in order! "Because" gives the reason: I ate because I was hungry. "So" gives the result: I was hungry, so I ate. lightbulb

Yes, you can! Just make sure to use a comma. "Because it was raining, we stayed home." This is perfectly correct! check_circle
