Rule: Use these words to start your story or the very first step of a process.

Rule: Use these words for everything that happens between the beginning and the end. You can mix them up!

Rule: Use these words to signal the very last step of a process or the end of your story.

Next, crack the egg into the pan.
Then, cook it for two minutes.

Don't say "and then" too many times!

Can I use "In the end" instead of "Finally"?
Yes! "In the end" is great for telling a story (e.g., "In the end, we went home"). "Finally" is good for stories AND for giving steps/instructions (e.g., "Finally, eat the cake"). cake
