Skimming means reading very fast to find out what kind of text it is. Is it a story, an email, or an invitation?

Hi Bopha! It prepares your brain! If you see a List shape, your brain knows "Ah, I don't need to read left-to-right, I just look down for facts." This makes reading much faster! bolt

Great question! A menu is a List. It has items arranged vertically, usually with a price next to them. You don't read a menu from start to finish like a story; you skip around to find what you want! fastfood

Great question, Sovan! It is actually French ("Répondez s'il vous plaît"), but we use it in English all the time on invitations. It just means "Please reply" so the host knows if you are coming or not! celebration

No! That is the Trap! warning When skimming, ignore the words you do not know. Just look for clues (like names, dates, or shape) to find out what type of text it is. You can read carefully later if you need to.

Yes, absolutely! Sometimes you get an invitation inside an email. If you skim and see "Time" and "Place" inside an email format, you know it is an email invitation! Smart thinking. lightbulb
