Why is English spelling so weird? Why does "Through" have an "ough" if we only say "Throo"?

Great question, Sovan! It's because of history. Hundreds of years ago, people ACTUALLY pronounced those letters (like a heavy sound in the throat). The pronunciation changed over time, but the spelling stayed the same! That's why we just have to memorize them as "Sight Words". 📚

How can I remember all these "ough" words? I always mix them up.

Don't try to sound them out. Write them on flashcards and just look at the SHAPE of the word. Practice reading them out loud many times until your brain recognizes them instantly, just like recognizing a friend's face! 📸

T

For the word "Often", do we pronounce the 'T' or is it silent?

Both are completely fine! Many native speakers say "off-en" (silent T), and many others say "off-ten". You can use whichever is easier for you to say! 🗣️
