Welcome to Module 5 of your primary reading track! I am Teacher Sopheak. ខ្ញុំបាទគឺ លោកគ្រូ សុភ័ក្រ។ At the elementary level, reading isn't just about understanding individual words; it's about seeing how those words connect to build paragraphs.
Today we will master finding the main topic, tracing pronouns back to their owners, and using basic connectors to link ideas structurally.
1. Identifying the Topic Sentence
Every well-structured paragraph in English has a Topic Sentence. This sentence tells the reader exactly what the entire block of text is about. In most A2 level texts, you will find the topic sentence right at the very beginning.
2. Pronoun Referencing
Writers do not want to repeat the same names or nouns over and over. Instead, they use pronouns (he, she, it, they). To understand the text, you must trace the pronoun backwards to find out who or what it replaces.
Many learners assume the pronoun "they" is only used for groups of people. In English reading structures, "they" is also the plural pronoun for objects and animals.
3. Basic Connectors
Connectors are the logical glue that holds sentences together. Recognizing them instantly tells your brain how the second part of the sentence relates to the first part.
