Module 4: Scanning (Reading for Specific Information)

Module 4: Scanning (Reading for Specific Information) Welcome back to your primary reading track. I am Teacher Sopheak. When you look for a phone number in a directory or a price on a menu, you do not read every word. You use a technique called "Scanning." Core Scanning Pillars Covered: Scanning Lists: Finding familiar words like food or names in vertical formats. Locating Numbers: Searching paragraphs specifically for digits or spelled numbers (1-10) to find times or prices. Caption Decoding: Isolating color words (e.g., Red, Blue) or specific object nouns beneath a picture. Linguistic Trap: The Slow Reading Trap The biggest mistake beginners make is trying to read a whole page word-by-word just to find one answer. Scanning is about speed. You must train your eyes to jump over words you do not need until you spot your target.
