Module 1: Intermediate Skimming & Scanning

Module 1: Intermediate Skimming & Scanning Welcome to your B1 Intermediate reading track. Reading fluency at this stage requires moving away from word-by-word translation and adopting high-speed data extraction techniques. Core Reading Pillars Covered: Skimming (Reading for Gist): Quickly moving your eyes over the text to understand the main topic. Focus on titles, subtitles, and the first sentences of paragraphs. Scanning (Reading for Details): Hunting for specific target information. Focus on capital letters (names, locations) and numbers (dates, percentages, prices). Linguistic Trap: The Word-by-Word Anchor A common trap for intermediate readers is stopping every time they encounter an unknown vocabulary word. When skimming or scanning, you must ignore unknown words unless they are the specific target data you are searching for.
