B2 Advanced Writing Focus: When my advanced students in Phnom Penh write professional emails or marketing brochures, they have excellent vocabulary, but sometimes their sentences feel unbalanced or confusing. Today, we are learning to polish your writing by mastering Parallel Structure (keeping lists grammatically identical) and fixing Modifiers (making sure your descriptions describe the correct noun).
warning The "Funny" Mistake
If you misplace a modifier, you can accidentally create a very funny sentence! Example: "Covered in spicy pepper sauce, the tourist loved the Kampot crab."
Wait... was the tourist covered in sauce? No! Modifiers must go right next to the noun they describe: "The tourist loved the Kampot crab covered in spicy pepper sauce."
ប្រសិនបើអ្នកដាក់ពាក្យពណ៌នាខុសកន្លែង វាអាចបង្កើតជាប្រយោគដ៏គួរឱ្យអស់សំណើច! ពាក្យពណ៌នាត្រូវតែនៅជាប់នឹងនាមដែលវាចង់បញ្ជាក់ន័យ។

Misplaced Modifiers
A descriptive phrase that is placed too far away from the word it is supposed to describe, causing confusion.
ពាក្យពណ៌នាខុសកន្លែង៖ ជាឃ្លាពណ៌នាដែលដាក់នៅឆ្ងាយពីពាក្យដែលវាត្រូវពណ៌នា បណ្តាលឱ្យមានការយល់ច្រឡំ។

This happens when you start a sentence with a descriptive phrase, but the subject doing the action is missing or wrong in the second half of the sentence.
