A simile compares two things directly using "as" or "like". An idiom is a cultural phrase where the words hide a completely different meaning. Learning these will make your English sound much more native, especially when chatting with visitors.

Idioms cannot be translated word-for-word into Khmer. For example, "a piece of cake" does not mean you are eating a dessert; it means a task is very easy! Always memorize the entire phrase and its hidden meaning, rather than focusing on the individual words.
