Sometimes they say, "I lived here for 5 years," when they actually mean, "I have lived here for 5 years." Knowing when an action is completely finished (Past Simple) and when it continues or affects the present (Present Perfect) changes your whole story.

warning Common Mistake
Never use specific, finished time words (like yesterday, last year, in 2019) with the Present Perfect.
Wrong: I have seen Angkor Wat yesterday.
Right: I saw Angkor Wat yesterday.
