Welcome to C1 Advanced Vocabulary! Language is not static; it evolves rapidly alongside technology. Today, we are looking at how the internet creates brand new words, known as neologisms , and how words are combined to form portmanteaus . Mastering these modern terms will help you communicate fluently in any international or digital setting. Vocabulary List: Neologism (Linguistics) - A newly coined word or expression. Crowdsource (Action Verb) - To obtain information by enlisting the services of a large number of people. Deepfake (Tech Noun) - Synthetic media where a person is replaced with someone else's likeness using AI. Doomscrolling (Modern Noun) - The act of spending an excessive amount of screen time reading negative news. Watch Out: Portmanteaus English often creates new words by blending two existing words together (like Emotion + Icon = Emoticon or Web + Log = Blog).
