Saying "a temple" is okay, but saying "an absolutely breathtaking ancient stone temple" makes the story come alive. Today, we will learn exactly what order to put describing words in, and how to make them stronger with Adverbs of Degree.

warning The "Opinion Before Fact" Rule
In Khmer, the adjective comes after the noun. In English, we stack adjectives before the noun using the OSASCOMP rule (Opinion, Size, Age, Shape, Color, Origin, Material, Purpose). The most important rule to remember: Opinion (beautiful, delicious) always comes before Fact (old, stone, Cambodian).
នៅក្នុងភាសាអង់គ្លេស គុណនាមដែលបង្ហាញពី 'មតិ' (ស្រស់ស្អាត ឆ្ងាញ់) តែងតែមកមុនគុណនាមដែលបង្ហាញពី 'ការពិត' (ចាស់ ថ្ម ខ្មែរ)។ ឧទាហរណ៍៖ "beautiful old stone temple" មិនមែន "old stone beautiful temple" ទេ។

Example: We sat down to eat a delicious hot Cambodian meal after the tour.

Using the strong adverb "absolutely" to emphasize an extreme adjective.
គួរឱ្យស្ញប់ស្ញែងខ្លាំងណាស់ (កិរិយាសព្ទវិសេសបញ្ជាក់ន័យធ្ងន់ + គុណនាមកម្រិតខ្ពស់)
Example: The view of the sunrise over the towers was absolutely breathtaking.

Using the weak adverb "slightly" to soften an adjective.
រាងថ្លៃបន្តិច (កិរិយាសព្ទវិសេសបញ្ជាក់ន័យស្រាល)
Example: The boutique hotel downtown was slightly expensive, but very comfortable.
ឧទាហរណ៍៖ សណ្ឋាគារប៊ូទិកនៅកណ្តាលទីក្រុងនោះរាងថ្លៃបន្តិច ប៉ុន្តែមានផាសុកភាពណាស់។

Small wooden
Size (small) comes before Material (wooden).
ធ្វើពីឈើដ៏តូច (ទំហំ + សម្ភារៈ)
Example: I bought a small wooden elephant at the night market as a souvenir.

Using "incredibly" to strongly boost a positive opinion.
