Welcome to C2 Mastery! At this level, grammar is only half the battle. True proficiency requires mastering register —adjusting your language based on your audience and the situation. Writing an official proposal requires a completely different tone than chatting with friends at a cafe. Today, we will master stylistic variation, formal versus informal register, and precise diction. Advanced Vocabulary List: Commence (Formal) - To begin or start. Ascertain (Formal) - To find out something for certain; to make sure of. Mitigate (Formal) - To make something less severe, harmful, or painful. Cordial (Formal) - Warm and friendly, but typically within a polite, formal context. Pristine (Precise Diction) - In its original condition; unspoiled. Exquisite (Precise Diction) - Extremely beautiful and, typically, delicate. Common Mistake: Register Mixing A common error at the advanced level is register mixing.
