Welcome to A2! I am your teacher, Mr. Sopheak. At this level, we are not just memorizing lists of words; we are learning how to discover what new words mean.
When you see a difficult word in a sentence, look at the words around it. We call this a "context clue." You can also build your vocabulary faster by grouping words that are similar or opposites.
Looking up every single word makes reading very slow and boring.
Learning Strategies
Example: I didn't know the word "beverage", but the context clues were "drink", "water", and "tea".
Example: It is easier to remember words if you group them, like putting "mango, banana, and apple" into a "fruit" group.
Example: The opposite of "hot" is "cold". Learning opposites together helps your memory.
Example: The words "big" and "large" have a similar meaning.
