Lesson 2: Singular and Plural Nouns (-s, -es)
Welcome back! When my English students talk about going to the market, they often forget to tell me if they bought one thing or many things. Today, we are looking at how to turn a singular noun (one) into a plural noun (two or more) simply by adding -s or -es . Let's look at some things you see around town and learn the spelling rules to make them plural. Vocabulary List: Tuk-Tuk -> Tuk-Tuks (Add -s) Market -> Markets (Add -s) Bus -> Buses (Add -es because it ends in -s) Watch -> Watches (Add -es because it ends in -ch) Box -> Boxes (Add -es because it ends in -x) Mango -> Mangoes (Add -es because it ends in -o) Common English Mistake In many languages, we use numbers or quantity words but leave the noun exactly the same. In English, if you have more than one, you must change the noun itself. Always remember to add the '-s' or '-es' to the end of the word!
