Teacher, why do English speakers say "beef" and "pork" instead of "cow meat" and "pig meat"?

Hi Kanha! It is because of history! After the French conquered England in 1066, the French upper class used French words for the food on their plates (Boeuf -> Beef, Porc -> Pork), while the English farmers kept the English words for the live animals (Cow, Pig). 📚

Good question! "Lamb" is the meat from a baby or young sheep. It is very soft. "Mutton" is the meat from an adult sheep. It is tougher and has a stronger flavor. 🐑
