Hi Kanha! They are very similar. "Wide" is the most common word for measuring side-to-side distance (a wide street). "Broad" is often used for physical features or landscapes (broad shoulders, a broad river). 🌊

It is history! They inherited the Imperial System from the British Empire long ago. While most of the world (and science) uses the Metric system now, the USA stuck with inches, feet, and miles! 📏
