Specific or General?
Articles tell us if a noun is specific or general.
🔹 A / An (Indefinite): General, one of many. (ទូទៅ / មួយណាក៏បាន)
🔹 The (Definite): Specific, unique, or known. (ជាក់លាក់ / មួយហ្នឹង)

"A"
Use before words starting with a consonant sound (b, c, d, f, etc.).

| A university | 'Y' sound (យូ) |
"An"
Use before words starting with a vowel sound (a, e, i, o, u).
| An apple | ផ្លែប៉ោមមួយ |
| An egg | ពងមាន់មួយ |
| An hour | Silent 'H' (អាវ) |
"The"
Use when we know exactly which one, or there is only one.
| The sun | Unique (មានតែមួយ) |
| The door | Specific (ទ្វារហ្នឹង) |
| The red pen | Specific (ប៊ិចក្រហមហ្នឹង) |
No Article
Do not use articles for plural general nouns or uncountable concepts.
| I like cats | General (ឆ្មាទូទៅ) |
| Love is good | Concept (សេចក្តីស្រលាញ់) |
| He drinks milk | Uncountable (ទឹកដោះគោ) |
