Why Read Cultural Briefs?
When you read articles or documents about culture, the information is usually separated into specific paragraphs covering different themes.
To understand these texts quickly, you don't need to read every single word immediately. Look at the general structure to understand how the information is organized. If you need a definition or a specific example, look for highlighted words or italicized text.
Go to the next tab to learn the B1 vocabulary, then practice your reading skills on the Cultural Brief in the Practice tab!

The Street Food Experience
Street food is an essential part of daily life in Cambodia. In bustling cities like Phnom Penh and quiet provincial towns alike, you will find vendors selling food from carts on nearly every corner. It is not just about eating; it is a social activity where people from all backgrounds gather to enjoy a quick meal.
Mornings are especially busy. Before work or school, many people stop to buy breakfast. A very popular dish is Bai sach chrouk, which is grilled pork served over rice with pickled vegetables. It is delicious, quick to prepare, and very convenient for busy people.
In the late afternoon and evening, the menu changes to snacks and dinner items. You can find everything from grilled meatballs and fresh fruit to more unique options like fried crickets. Street food is loved because it is tasty and highly affordable for everyone.
