Map Labeling

Following directions and understanding locations.

Lesson Goal: Learn how to listen for spatial keywords to navigate a map and find specific locations.

Listening for Directions

When someone gives you directions, they paint a picture with words. You must be able to follow their path in your mind (or on a map).

Listen carefully for Prepositions of Place. Words like behind, next to, and across from are the keys to finding your destination. You also need to recognize Landmarks—words like intersection or roundabout—which act as turning points on your journey.

Go to the next tab to learn the directional vocabulary, then listen to the guide in the Practice tab to locate the buildings!
