Bias & Critical Thinking Skill: Distinguishing Fact from Opinion. Goal: Read two texts about the same topic and identify which one is neutral and which one is biased.
1 Vocabulary Prep Bias Noun ការលំអៀង /ˈbaɪ.əs/ Support for or opposition to someone or something in an unfair way. Fact Noun ការពិត /fækt/ Something that is known to have happened or to exist; verifiable. Opinion Noun មតិ / យោបល់ /əˈpɪn.jən/ A view or judgment formed about something, not necessarily based on fact. Neutral Adj អព្យាក្រឹត /ˈnuː.trəl/ Not supporting or helping either side in a conflict or disagreement. Exaggerate Verb និយាយបំផ្លើស /ɪɡˈzædʒ.ə.reɪt/ To represent something as being larger, better, or worse than it really is. Objective Adj ដែលមិនលំអៀង /əbˈdʒek.tɪv/ Based on real facts and not influenced by personal beliefs or feelings. 2 Scenario A: City News Hover over the highlighted words to analyze the language.
