Data Analysis

Data Analysis

Scanning visual data in a business context.

Lesson Goal: Learn how to interpret charts and tracking reports quickly to find key business information.

Reading Business Data

In a professional environment, information is rarely presented in long paragraphs. Instead, companies use charts, graphs, and tracking tables to show data quickly.

When you look at a dashboard, you must use scanning to find the most important details. For a bar chart, you might scan to see which column is the tallest (the peak) or the shortest. For a project table, your eyes should skip the descriptions and focus directly on the Status column to see if a project is completed or pending.

Go to the next tab to learn the vocabulary, then test your scanning skills on the Revenue Chart and Project Tracker in the Practice tab!
