Lesson 15: Travel Log (The Postcard)

✈️ Reading Lab
Postcards
Lesson Goal: Practice reading handwriting and understanding travel stories.

Writing Home

Before smartphones and social media, travelers used to send postcards to their friends and family back home. A postcard has a picture of the destination on the front, and room for a short message and a stamp on the back.

Because there is very little space to write, the messages are usually short and to the point. Travelers often describe the scenery, the food they have eaten, or the famous places they have seen while sightseeing.

Sometimes, they will also mention that they bought a souvenir to bring home. Reading postcards is a great way to practice reading informal English and different handwriting styles!

Hi Mom!

We are having a great time in Paris. Right now, we are sitting in a café and drinking hot chocolate.

It is raining a little bit, but the city looks beautiful!

See you soon,
