Reading Transaction Data
When you purchase something, whether at a supermarket, a local cafe, or online, you will receive transaction data. This usually comes in the form of a printed receipt or a digital invoice sent to your email.
You do not need to read every single word on these documents! Instead, you should use the skill of scanning to find the numbers that matter. Your eyes should jump directly to the bottom of the list to find the subtotal. Right below that, you can scan to see how much tax or VAT was added, or if you received a discount.
Finally, you can scan for the absolute bottom line: the final Total. If you paid with cash, it is also useful to scan for the word change to ensure you received the correct amount back from the cashier. Let's practice finding these keywords!
