Is there a strict difference between Alleviate and Mitigate? I see them used interchangeably in news reports.

Excellent question, Makara. While similar, C2 precision demands distinguishing them.

Alleviate implies providing temporary physical or mental relief from suffering (e.g., alleviate pain, alleviate poverty).

Mitigate means to lessen the severity, gravity, or harshness of a condition or action (e.g., mitigate risks, mitigate environmental impact). You alleviate a symptom, you mitigate a disaster! balance
