You can now share your name and age. That's wonderful! In a city like Siem Reap, you will meet people from all over the world. This lesson will teach you how to ask where they are from and how to say where you are from.

Word Bank

  • Country (noun) | ប្រទេស
    A nation with its own land and government.
    Example: "Cambodia is my country."
  • From (preposition) | មកពី
    Shows the place where someone starts.
    Example: "I am from Cambodia."
  • Where (adverb) | នៅឯណា
    Used to ask a question about a place.
    Example: "Where are you from?"
  • Nationality (noun) | សញ្ជាតិ
    The word that says you belong to a country.
    Example: "My nationality is Cambodian."

Usage Note: Country vs. Nationality

This is very important! A country is the place. A nationality is the word for the person.

  • You ask: "Where are you from?" ➞ You answer with the Country: "I am from France."
  • You ask: "What is your nationality?" ➞ You answer with the Nationality: "I am French."
